This was a commissioned project in partnership with Savannah College of art & design. A handful of selected alumni students were directed to create a look inspired by the fashion exhibition in SCAD Fashion museum. The exhibition featured prominent work by decorated costume designer Ruth E. Carter. The exhibition features an extensive archive of costumes from Marvels Black Panther to Selma, Malcolm X and an impressive list of additional powerful black movies. The task was to be inspired by a movie of an element within the exhibition and conceptualize/ design a look inspired by her work. I choose Malcolm X with focus on modernizing the controversial zoot suit.
Scad Faculty alongside Ruth E. Carter, comprised a short film using select Alumni looks from the challenge. My look is also featured in this film.
